About Alex

Climate is not just what I study. It is what I have spent my career trying to fix.

For nearly a decade, Alex Banat has worked at the intersection of clean energy, climate technology, and public understanding. From building EV charging infrastructure programs at Energy New England to advising major energy clients including National Grid, Mitsubishi Power, and Bloom Energy at Edelman, to supporting Breakthrough Energy portfolio companies at V2 Communications, he has worked across the full spectrum of the clean energy transition.

That breadth was intentional. Because understanding how the clean energy transition actually works, from the utility level to the startup level to the policy level, is what makes the difference between communications that move people and communications that disappear into the noise.

Today, Alex is completing his Master's in Sustainability at Harvard Extension School, where his research focuses on climate misinformation. His thesis, Fueling Doubt, examines how coordinated disinformation campaigns on social media platforms delay clean energy policy and erode public trust in climate science. It is research that sits at the intersection of everything he has spent his career working on.

The Climate Layer is the public expression of that work. Launched to combat the narratives holding back climate progress, the show has explored everything from planetary boundaries and ocean health to battery storage breakthroughs, offshore wind, and the war on science. Each episode is built on the same belief: that the truth about climate change is more compelling than the lies told about it, and that most people, given clear information and real stories, will choose the right thing.
